Brief History

Brief History

After more than ten years of planning and development, Lanyang Campus of Tamkang University successfully passed the evaluation from the Ministry of Education in the spring of 2005. In the fall semester of the same year, the campus begins accepting students and officially becomes one of the campuses of Tamkang University. Originally, there were three colleges in this campus: the College of Entrepreneurial Development, the College of Global Research and Development, and the College of Community Development. After five years of actual functioning and development, starting from Fall 2010, the College of Entrepreneurial Development and the College of Global Research and Development have decided to integrate tightly to become one college: the College of Global Entrepreneurial Development. The merging is based on the common intrinsic nature and the future necessity of the campus goal. In 2014, the College of Global Entrepreneurial Development to be changed the College of Global Development.

Features

1. Students are required to take a year of oversea study in their junior year.
2. Teaching in English.
3. A traditional residential collegiate system accommodating all students and staff, which facilitates pastoral care.

The overall objective of the College of Global Development is to educate and train students to be concepts emerged globally. Students are encouraged to be innovative and pursuit new business opportunities which are available in a challenging new economic and social environment around the world. As a result, the college offers courses that help students obtaining a wide array of up to date entrepreneurial skills, competencies, and a broad knowledge base. Students are trained to be leaders with extensive perspectives and a vision for the future. The major pedagogical goal for the college is to cultivate entrepreneurship skills and global viewpoints to the students. The College trains students not only to be entrepreneurs but also to be intrapreneurs within an organization. Hence, graduates from the college can start their own business with the global perspective or work within various world-wide organizations as well.

 

Currently, the college consists of four departments: Department of Innovative Information and Technology, Department of International Tourism Management, Department of Multicultural and Linguistic Studies and Department of Global Political Economy. All five departments provide high-quality, oriented undergraduate education. The college employs modern teaching methods, strives to deliver excellent teaching through committed faculty, overseas exchange programs, field studies, and an open, responsive classroom environment. All courses are taught in English. Students are therefore fully prepared for the globalization trend in the business world.

 

The College dedicates itself to the following objectives:
1. Provide high-quality, oriented undergraduate education in each individual department with a focus on the development of students' entrepreneurial skills and global mindset;
2. Strive to deliver excellent learning experiences through committed faculties as well as a friendly and responsive classroom environment;
3. Enhance and expand curriculums in order to train students with an understanding of the spirit of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial companies.

The aim of Department of Innovative Information and Technology is to nurture students’ abilities for software development to tally with demands of information society. The graduates can contribute their specialty in the fields of information security, system audit, digital system, internet programming, electric toy, multimedia programming, artificial intelligence and expert system etc.

The Aim of Department of Information and Communication Technology Management is to nurture students’ abilities for innovating the development of Information and Communication Technology and having management knowledge. The graduates can start the enterprise in the fields of information and communication technology industry. Moreover, they may become the professional leaders in the fields of information and communication technology management, security audit and network communication etc.

The Department of International Tourism Management focuses on combining professional knowledge with practice. The graduates can get a job in local, international tourist hotels or in the fields of traveling design and management.

The Department of Multicultural and Linguistic Studies provides cross-language and cross-culture learning environments. The courses combining cultural studies, linguistics and constructional bilingual education nurture students to be the inter-disciplinary talents in the cultural, language and educational fields.
